The
countries of Baixa Cerdanya and Alt Urgell lie
along the river basins of the Segre and the Valira, protected
to the north
by the mountains range of the Pyrenees and to the south by the
towering heights of the Cadí. It is a countryside
of small rivers running between rich meadows. To the north is the
Principality
of Andorra, one of the smallest countries in the world.
The
climate is typically mediterranean, influenced by the mountains;
cold and dry in winter, rainy in spring, hot and dry in summer and
mildly
humid in autumn. It produces a rich pasture, giving a distinctive "bouquet" to
the cows' milk.
